I said goodbye to my best friend today……

I’m sure many of you have buried your parents, and some of you may have even buried children. But for me, today may have been one of the toughest days I’ve ever weathered in my life. I said goodbye to the very best friend I ever had today. And I don’t say that lightly. For me to find another friend like Stephen would be for me to go through adolescence again. I’d have to learn to hunt and fish all over again. I’d have to relearn to drive and relearn what girls and shaving are all about. Stephen and I met when we were 8 years old and we’ve been nearly inseparable since then.

If saying goodbye wasn’t tough enough, he asked me a few months ago if I would deliver his eulogy. Boys, I had to resuscitate one of my children once and I’m not sure it was any harder than standing in front of his family and telling them what a fine son, brother, husband, father, and best friend he was.

After fighting a courageous battle against Wegener’s Granulamatosis, Stephen Holloway, my best friend and virtual brother passed away Sunday, December 6th at 5:30 am.

MSGT Stephen S Holloway, DBA, USAF ret. 1963-2009.

You have been a sounding board, a confidant, my #1 fan, and most recently, my hero. I love you brother; I’ll see you in the next life.
