Thank you Capt Jeff

Capt, I just want to thank you for your posts here I used them to plan my trip to Kona. Saddly for me you were booked during the time I was there, worse than that I booked with another Captain that wanted me to fish the morning of the tsunami. He was going to graciously “drop me off in the harbor at 11am” I said no thanks and he got angry. But any way Thanks for your reports, I keep up with them and hope to head back to Kona later this year. I’ll be loking you up for sure!

San Diego CO – first ever overnight turkey hunt

Hey all. Well, I’m trying to rack up the different game I’ve hunted and yesterday I tried turkey. I had a public land area on some tips, and there were certainly turkeys all over, but the dang toms seemed to always show up when I was driving the private property. Anyway, I scouted all yesterday and spooked three hens in some oak glens (on my first post, she appeared within minutes, though perhaps she was simply passing my way and I thought I had called her). I gots some spots that seemed promising, nice open fields with turkey tracks in the creeks nearby. Posted up in the dark of morning and heard absolutely nothing! What a major let down. I mean to hear NOTHING?! I finally heard some yelps, walked into the woods towards them, only to see I was being called in by another hunter! I figured my day was wrecked at that point – his and my calling and walking surely telecast our presence to whatever gullible turkeys lived nearby. I think this area is simply too popular and easily accessible.

One thing I was finding extremely hard: finding roosting and/or feeding sights. How do you find these spots? In an oak forest where the floor is all leaves and grass, footprints are non-existant, and the occassional white scat splat is about the only sign I could find. However, unlike rabbits and deer, who leave plenty of sign in their hang-out areas, I was never able to find a real concentration of turkey sign anywhere, only meagre single instances. Do you guys find that turkey nesting sights are really thoroughly littered with droppings? I mean enough to really notice them?

Anyway, if anyone’s down for a San Diego county hunt with a 26-year old hunter, please feel free to contact me. I’d love to learn off someone more experienced.

When will FHL release the 2010 applications? Do they release them in June to coincide with the hunting year or do they release them earlier so apps are in by June? New to California and any info is much appreciated.

9 Teenagers Are Charged After Classmate’s Suicide. Bullies and losers

Bullies are nothing but cowards. Teach your kids to defend themselves, no kid should have to put up with this. We’ve had a couple internet bullies roll through here. How miserable is your life when you have to create fake accounts and post disparaging remarks and pics on a person’s website? Losers is the one word that comes to mind.

Hunting bill draws fire

The cover is off Senate Bill 222. And based on a majority of recent testimony, its odds of passage just got longer. Changing a law that has been in place since 1917, the bill would allow citizens to carry uncased long guns in their vehicle.
